Two protests have been announced in the Sofia Municipality – by “Justice for Everyone” and by PP-DB
About 19-20 checkpoints will be set up at today’s protests in the center of Sofia. This was announced by the director of the SDVR, Chief Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov.

According to him, even at the moment people are moving towards the protest, the law enforcement agencies will be monitoring for possible provocateurs.

Nikolov recalled that at such peaceful protests, people always appear who create tension.

“There is always information about provocateurs. We are carefully monitoring social networks, where there are harsh statements by various participants in the protests,” the director of the SDVR also explained, quoted by BTA.

He added that after the last protest, “certain individuals were filtered out.”

Two protests have been announced in the Sofia Municipality for tonight, both starting at 6 p.m. A protest by "Justice for Everyone" is in front of the Courthouse and is expected to merge with the one in the triangle of power, organized by the PP-DB, at 7 p.m.

At this time, the organizers have not announced a march of the protesters, Chief Commissioner Nikolov specified.

This is how the chairman of the party's National Council responded to a question about whether he would resign

"BSP-United Left" is already preparing for the upcoming elections, the chairman of the party's National Council Atanas Zafirov told journalists in response to a question about whether he would resign as a political leader.

The outgoing Deputy Prime Minister participated in a pre-Christmas event at the registration and reception center of the State Agency for Refugees in "Ovcha Kupel". There, he and the chairman of the State Agency for Refugees under the Council of Ministers Ivan Ivanov delighted 21 young refugees with gifts days before Christmas.

"The most important topic at the moment is precisely the elections, the result of our participation in the government, and anyone who tries to shift the center of gravity from these issues is an enemy of the BSP and Bulgaria," he added.

As a person who is not indifferent to the future of not only the BSP, but also the entire left, I want to assure you that we are about to make the most correct and accurate decisions in the manner in which they are written in our documents and rules, Zafirov also stated.

BTA recalls that the Executive Bureau of the BSP submitted its resignation to the Chairman of the National Council of the party, Atanas Zafirov, on December 16 and scheduled a meeting of the National Assembly for January 10, 2026.

The members of the leadership of the left made this decision as an act of collective responsibility, with the clear awareness that at this important moment for the state and the party, the most important thing is to calm the situation and guide the party through the upcoming challenges, the BSP stated at the time.

A former anaesthetist has been jailed for life for intentionally poisoning 30 patients, 12 of them fatally.

Frédéric Péchier, 53, was convicted Friday at the end of a four-month trial in the eastern city of Besançon.

In one of France's biggest ever medical malpractice cases, Péchier was found to have introduced chemicals like potassium chloride or adrenaline into the infusion bags of patients.

His youngest victim, a four-year-old child, survived two cardiac arrests during a routine tonsil surgery in 2016. The oldest victim was 89.

"You are Doctor Death, a poisoner, a murderer. You bring shame on all doctors," said prosecutors last week. "You have turned this clinic into a graveyard."

New Epstein photos from House Democrats show high-profile figures, island plans and passports

Democrats on the US House Oversight Committee have released another batch of photographs subpoenaed from the estate of disgraced paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

From an inmate request form, to high-profile figures, and development plans for one of his private Caribbean islands, the content of the 68 images was wide-ranging, with no extra context provided for any of them.

Some were particularly striking: a screenshot of a text conversation saying "I will send u girls now", a person's body with quotes from the novel Lolita scrawled across it, and a swathe of passports - names redacted - but belonging to women from Russia, Lithuania, Ukraine and more.

It's important to note that simply appearing in these photographs does not imply any wrongdoing.

The photographs "were selected to provide the public with transparency into a representative sample of the photos received from the estate" said a statement put out by the Democrats behind the release.

Republicans have previously accused Democrats of "cherry-picking" images and "making targeted redactions".

These are just the latest piecemeal release from about 95,000 images the committee currently holds.

Moreover, these are not the long-awaited "Epstein files".

All eyes are now on the Department of Justice which must release the full trove of information it holds relating to its criminal investigations into Epstein by tomorrow.
